SEO isn't that difficult 🚀
Almost every day people approach me and ask how they can easily rank on the first page of Google or get more clicks on the search engine result pages. And, guess what?
The answer is really simple!
If you want to get to the top of Google, you just need to do THREE simple things and your ranking is GUARANTEED to improve. Let's look at them...
We use keywords and key phrases every day on the internet. Whenever you type something on Google or Bing, those search terms are keywords and key phrases. For example, if you search for 'best drone for kids' or 'awesome digital marketing agency', these are keywords that websites are targeting to reach the top spot on Google.
If you want to get traffic from users typing in these keywords and key phrases, then you need to know what your potential customers are searching for. So, with keyword research, you need to identify a list of search terms that you would expect people to type in when looking for your content. For example, let's say you sell a range of t-shirts designed for dog lovers, you may have a list of keywords/key phrases that include 'dog tees', 'shirts with dogs on', and 't-shirt for pug lover'.
The great news is that there are a load of fantastic tools out there and they're really easy to use, providing you with a LOAD of great data within seconds. The correct tool will show you the search volume of each keyword, the competition (i.e. how many people are trying to rank for that keyword), and IAAT (meaning 'In Anchor and Title', which identifies a count of webpages on which the keyword appears in both the title tag and the text of a backlink. For example, have a look at WordTracker.
Once you have identified all the keywords you wish to rank on the top of Google for, you now need to optimise them properly. Again, this is nice and easy. Optimisation really just means making sure that Google can understand what keywords that you are targeting, what products or services you are selling, and where you are selling them.
On each webpage you want to embed the keywords and key phrases strategically to show Google that your page is focused on the particular topic you wish to rank higher for. Within your code, you want to place the keyword within the title text, URL path, meta description, and body of the text itself. It is no coincidence that when you type your keyword into Google that the keyword is very prominently displayed within the title, URL, and description of each result.
The third, and final, step in easily getting to the top of Google is building authority. Unfortunately, it isn't quite enough to just identify the correct keywords and optimise for them. This won't get you to the first page of Google, although it will certainly help!
You also need to be building up your authority. Google, and other search engines, only want to display the most relevant and informative content on the first page. Remember, the search engines that display the most useful content to its users are the ones that succeed - at the end of the day, Google wasn't the first search engine to exist but is now the most popular search engine because their algorithms are the most accurate when it comes to showing you what you want to see. So, if you can prove to Google that your webpage will be the most accurate, relevant, and interesting, you will inevitably rise up the ranking.
So how do you do this?
One of the best ways to build authority is to create such compelling content that people are sharing it across social networks and linking to it from around the internet. Obviously, if more people are sharing it and linking to it, then it is clearly interesting and helpful. After all, nobody will share and link to rubbish content. So, make sure your content is easy to share and that you collaborate with others in your industry to build up a healthy backlink profile.
